Christina Allyn holds a dual bachelor’s degree from Berklee College of Music, Boston, MA in Music Performance and Music Education, class of 1988. She earned her Master’s of Music Education from Western CT State University while teaching music in the public school system as an instrumental music teacher, classroom music teacher and band director for Region 12 schools in CT from 1989-1994 and Salisbury Central Elementary School in Salisbury, CT 1988-89. Many of her students have gone on to become professional music educators, professional musicians such as Qasim Naqvi (drummer) of Dawn of Midi, and Steven Bunce (bassist) of Light Bright.
She has prepared countless students for recitals and adjudications. Christina excels at inspiring, in those whom she has the privilege of teaching, a lifelong love of the pursuit of music and of one’s best musical self. She teaches drum set (beginning-advanced levels), all school band instruments (beginning-intermediate levels) and piano (beginning-intermediate levels).
Over the years, Christina has performed in many bands and for area theaters such as Rio Jazz, The Leo Liddle Big Band, Spectrum, Swing and Sway with Zip Zantay, The Warner Theater, The Sharon Playhouse, and school theater groups for the Berkshire School, Hotchkiss School, Salisbury Boys School and more. The Music Shop holds a special place in Christina’s history since she grew up in Torrington and started her own pursuit of music at the original The Music Shop location many years ago! She and her husband have raised three children and now live in East Canaan, CT
